Three Quarters Fast Jazz Band

David Washburn - Clarinet

David started playing clarinet and sax at age 11. He soon fell in love with the sounds of New Orleans jazz, particularly Pete Fountain. As a teenager it seemed "cooler" to play guitar, but after 27 years he went back to the clarinet and traditional sounds of Dixie.  He has organized the Three Quarters Fast Jazz Band that performs for festivals, weddings, parties or any venue where fun, lively music is enjoyed. He performs for many seniors groups in the Dallas area presenting swing and dance music from years past. Other groups he also plays with are Kleine Blasmusik, presenting great traditional German music, The Singapore Slingers of Dallas, featuring original arrangements from the 20's, 30's and 40's, and, of course, several New Orleans hotspots, including Preservation Hall.

Jon Hock - Drums

Jon inherited a pair of used drum sticks from his oldest brother, and started tapping along to a variety of music (thanks to four older sisters who played virtually every Broadway and movie musical soundtrack from the 50's and 60's, along with an amazing range of music that included everything from Dean Martin and Sarah Vaughan to Elvis and Chopin). Soon he was accompanying a local jazz teacher, and finally got a full set of drums at age 14. Along with Three Quarters Fast, Jon plays drums or percussion with many bands including The Mark McKenzie Quartet, The Dallas Czech Orchestra, Froshinn Kapelle German Band, The Heritage Brass Band and Fife & Drum Corps, the Lakeshore Symphonic Winds, and the Wilshire Wind Symphony.

Kevin Curtis - Guitar

Kevin has been playing guitar for forty years. He attended both Berklee College of Music in Boston and Cedar Valley and Mountain View Colleges here in Texas. He has performed with numerous groups throughout the country and throughout the Dallas area as a freelance artist. He currently performs with The Dave Washburn Three Quarters Fast Jazz Band, along with his own band The Kevin Curtis Group, a smooth/traditional jazz/pop and variety group. Mr. Curtis owns Troubador Music in Terrell Texas, a complete music teaching and recording studio with a student base of over 60 students.

Philip Minshew - Bass

Philip, a native of Dallas, began his musical studies as part of the inaugural class at the High School for the Performing Arts at Booker T. Washington in Dallas. He continued his studies at the University of North Texas under the instruction of Jack Petersen. Philip has been teaching guitar and bass for the last 10 years in the Forney/Terrell area and currently is an instructor at Troubadour Music in Terrell, Texas.

Yancey Arthur - Trombone

Yancey was born in Dallas, grew up in Coppell and now lives in Terrell with his wife Peggy.  He attended Northlake College and has played and/or sang in many different bands. He was offered a job singing in Branson and was a guest player with the DUKES OF DIXIELAND of New Orleans. Yancey Works for American Airlines. His lament is, "Trombone players are so misunderstood" :-(
